“There are two ways – and only two ways – that your family law case can be resolved. Option No. One: you and the other party agree to how you will raise your children, share your incomes, and divide your estate. Option No. Two: a stranger in a robe – called a 'Judge' – decides those vitally important matters, after the case is fully litigated. No reasonable person wants Option No. Two. That is why our law firm emphasizes settlement and cooperation. But sometimes Option No. One is not viable, despite our best efforts. If so, you’ll want the best family law litigation attorney around.”

Scott J. Lantry is a Certified Specialist in the field of Family Law.  If you ask him, he is the best family law litigator in the East Bay – an attribute that helps him to settle almost all his cases.

Mr. Lantry dedicates himself to family law.  Now a partner at the law firm of Whiting, Ross, Abel & Campbell, LLP, attorney Scott J. Lantry was first hired by the firm in 2004 as a File Room Clerk.  Ever since he passed the California Bar in 2008, he has represented clients throughout California, including Contra Costa, Alameda and Solano counties, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Danville, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Concord, Piedmont, Berkeley, Oakland, Kensington, Montclair, Rockridge and other communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Mr. Lantry is rooted in the East Bay and California legal community.  He leads numerous local and statewide professional associations on their Board of Governors.  He volunteers over 60 billable hours per year to help local Superior Court Judges settle their most difficult “moderate means” cases.  For his professional endeavors, Mr. Lantry has been selected for inclusion in the Northern California Super Lawyers® List. Less than 2.5% of attorneys in Northern California are named to Super Lawyers®.

Mr. Lantry is no stranger to financially complex matters.  He acted as lead trial counsel in Superior Court proceedings that led to the published appellate decision In re Marriage of MacIlwaine, a case that made new law in California regarding the treatment of extraordinary income from stock option compensation that may exceed the needs of the minor children. (In re Marriage of MacIlwaine (2018) 26 Cal.App.5th 514.) Mr. Lantry has since gone on to represent and advise both support payors and support recipients in cases where the payor’s income arguably exceeds the children’s needs under section 4057(b)(3), and where the support obligation is based on income from all forms of equity compensation.

An eloquent professional, Mr. Lantry has written a few articles on divorce and other family law topics. He has also presented at several seminars and conferences across California.

Mr. Lantry has been qualified to testify as an expert in the field of California Family Law.
