“Whether the client is involved in a divorce, negotiating a premarital or marital agreement, or navigating other family law matters, I enjoy providing legal counsel to individuals confronting the fear, anxiety, and legal hurdles associated with such life transitions.”

Gregory C. Abel

Gregory C. Abel is a skilled legal professional with substantial experience in complex California family law litigation, preparation of premarital agreements and marital agreements. Greg strives to empower his clients with confidence, strength, and knowledge before making critical decisions about the future. He recognizes a party to a family law proceeding is often threatened by strong emotions and the many complex issues pending. Perspective can be difficult to maintain. Greg works hard to inform the client of his or her rights and obligations. He is analytical and creative. Greg desires to effectively guide his clients through the myriad of issues present in a family law proceeding with the goal of restoring the client to a position from which he or she can move forward informed and with a positive attitude toward the future.

Greg is also a certified mediator and has successfully mediated resolutions to many family law proceedings. As a skilled mediator, Greg attempts to empower the mediation participant with an opportunity to identify and resolve issues in a reasonable manner and respectful forum.

Greg is a Certified Family Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys.

Greg has an AV rating from the well-regarded Martindale-Hubbell.

He has been selected for inclusion in Northern California Super Lawyers® each year since 2005.

Greg also consults with financial planners, lenders, attorneys in other practice areas, and other professionals concerning the negotiation and drafting of agreements between spouses during the marriage.

He has served as Judge Pro Tem for the Contra Costa County Superior Court. He is past President of the Family Law Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association and past President of Kids Turn (a non-profit organization that delivers “kid-centric” programs throughout North America, helping families through parental separation). Greg has published several articles in the legal professionals’ magazine Contra Costa Lawyer. He also regularly presents on topics including marital agreements, parental relocation, protecting the record in family law writs and appeals, and the Year in Review in Family Law.
